Launch and Seminar: Strengthening the Sustainability, Quality and Competitiveness of Irish Higher Education: Policy Options
The world is in a state of flux, and the future is less predictable than ever. The Covid-19 pandemic and its social and economic consequences are likely to accelerate existing trends, expose underlying weaknesses in the higher education system and, on a more positive note, open up opportunities. This is a period of growing demands on higher education institutions but also a time when governments are facing competing demands for state-led initiatives across a wide range of social and economic issues.
The European Commission made a significant contribution to the policy debate when it published its roadmap for higher education at the end of January 2022: European Strategy for Universities and Council Recommendation on building bridges for effective European higher education cooperation.
What are the implications for Ireland of the roadmap and of other international megatrends? How should we think about the medium to longer-term issues which will be important for our higher education institutions, academic and administrative staff, current and future students, and Irish society and economy? What administrative and governance structures will we need? And how is the system to be paid for?
On 4 April BH Associates is holding a Seminar to launch its paper, Strengthening the Sustainability, Quality and Competitiveness of Irish Higher Education: Trends and Propositions to Provoke Debate.
Professor Michael Murphy, President of the EUA and Emeritus President of UCC, will deliver a keynote address.
Registration is now open. A link to the paper is attached here
